Periplum specialise in site-specific workshops through creative residencies
for GCSE, FE/HE, degree and post-graduate levels. We believe that any
space can be turned into an exciting stage to extend the possibilities
of performance.
At GCSE-level, adventurous explorations of space & staging can be
a great vehicle to creatively meet various curriculum key stages, animate
studies of classic or modern texts, and boost devising skills, promoting
confidence amongst students by encouraging their creative imagination.
For FE/HE & BA students, site-specific can be a great stimulus to
liberate creative practice or be a perfect practical compliment to advanced
research projects.
Our Site-Specific workshops will:
- Encourage participants to work outside the conventional theatre space
and respond to their surroundings, offering a valuable experience &
insight into alternative ways of making work.
- Absorb & interpret the history/mood of a location into performance,
encouraging participants to devise or adapt stories, characters,
motifs & scenography inspired by the site.
- Explore how to build atmospheres & narrative through visuals,
physicality, voice and the journey of the audience.
- Look at the role of the audience in the action and in relation to
the space, creating interactive and intimate one-on-one
performance experiences.
Site-specific drama can be a perfect medium for exploring theatre theory
and practitioner studies - Artaud, Brook, Grotowski - through radical
& alternative staging.
