north sea sirens

‘Excitement built as we were fully immersed in the dramatic soundscape which enhanced the features of the natural landscape. It was fascinating to experience aspects of its history portrayed in such a dramatic, evocative and creative way. A powerful environmental message was delivered. A truly multi-sensory experience.’
Talk of the Town Magazine, East Cleveland

Periplum’s poetic, sonic odyssey celebrates our magical landscapes and the heritage, myths and folklore they hold, transporting audiences to sites where nature and human industry intersect.

North Sea Sirens encompassed large-scale visual installations in coastal locations, immersive audio experiences, outdoor performances, community engagement and museum events. Launched in 2024 with events in the stunning landscapes of East Cleveland, the project toured across Tees Valley and Kirklees before culminating at Wintertide Festival on Hartlepool Headland.

The project was funded by Arts Council England, with site-responsive events commissioned by Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, Wintertide Festival, Hartlepool, Creative Scene and Tees Valley Museums. Funding from Tees Valley Combined Authority supported local creatives to train and take paid roles in multiple roles across all events.
