a thousand feet deep

‘An incredible outdoor show with a magical take on the borough.’
The Guide Liverpool

A thousand feet deep, beneath the fields of Knowsley, is a land of power & invention. Magic is rising from under our feet. When the Prescot Clocks strike to the power of nine a Timelord will fly, a scarecrow will wake & the Banshee of Knowsley Hall will rise...

An immersive outdoor performance spectacular exploring the history and spirit of Knowsley Borough, this 50-minute performance took audiences of 7,000 on an atmospheric journey through myths, modern day legends and folklore. Periplum worked with communities across 9 towns & villages to gather stories & memories with the themes of magic, power & invention.

An epic poem weaving real life with the power of imagination, this original narrative also celebrated the area's industries and tales of the people that powered them: from the quarries and mines that lay beneath the performance site to the future-dreamers driving Halewood. A Thousand Feet Deep celebrated inspirational figures including sports stars, writers and social campaigners, on the football field, in the boxing ring, the cinema and the political arena.

The show was commissioned by Knowsley Borough Council as part of Liverpool City Region's Borough of Culture 2022, with additional funding from Arts Council England.
